Origins

This evergreen tree, the camphor tree, can reach 25 meters in height. Crushing its leaves releases a camphor scent. It has been naturalized in Madagascar for centuries.

The essential oil obtained from the leafy twigs is Ravintsara, not to be confused with Camphor essential oil obtained by distillation of the bark of the plant, and not having the same origin (China or Japan).

Ravintsara essential oil is a must-have in any family first-aid kit, especially in winter. In Malagasy, its name means "Good Leaf," a reputation that's well-deserved! Highly effective against colds, it's also a soothing essential oil, ideal for helping you drift off to sleep.

Its popularity also stems from the fact that, despite its high potency, it is suitable for both adults and children. Indeed, it presents very little risk of toxicity. Both young and old can benefit from this gentle essential oil, which is said to "reassure those who doubt everything."
Malagasy Ravintsara essential oil, containing little or no camphor, is therefore safe, while Camphor tree essential oil, containing camphor, has different virtues and uses.
