ORIGINS & HISTORY OF Inula graveolens

Both graceful and robust, Inula is a very surprising little flower.

In Corsica, two different varieties are found: sticky inula, which has little aromatic interest, and fragrant inula, from which an emerald green essential oil with powerful virtues is extracted.

It is an annual plant, entirely pubescent-glandular, sticky, with a strong odor. The stem is long, erect, and highly branched, with small ligulate yellow-orange flowers. In some regions of the world, it is invasive. Its essential oil is contained in the fragile pockets of its leaves.

The low yield of Inula during extraction makes its essential oil even more precious.

Small but powerful, it is known to cause rather violent but beneficial elimination crises with prolonged use. This phenomenon is called "Inula shock."

Paradoxical and surprising, Inula is an essential oil to be tamed (perhaps with the help of a therapist for the less experienced). Used with caution, it proves very beneficial in the cases described below by our reference authors.

When Christian Escriva speaks of the fragrance of this small yellow flower, he emphasizes that it holds a touch of mystery.

Little used in family aromatherapy due to its potency, Inula may not have revealed all its secrets. For example, it is currently being tested on cases of cystic fibrosis with results that are considered encouraging.
